the past week

well, i've had a hectic few weeks recently! had all of my university year 1 work to hand in and after the deadline i went to London for a few days with my friend Abby to visit our friend Leigh in Kingston.

we visited the David Shrigley exhibition and it was so fantastic! accidentally laughed out-loud at one of the videos which was quite embarrassing as nobody else did laugh...

I had a great weekend! although for the past week i have felt really unproductive... just found my mum's old sewing machine so i might start that and make it my hobby.

anyways, recent star buy!

a gorgeous typewriter in a turquoise colour! majority of the keys work except one, and one of them is missing which isn't really a required key. but i love it! i decided to buy it to re-brand my business and hand-type each envelope to clients :)

a bit of DIY

as i have developed a 'little' obsession of obtaining and owning film cameras, my room couldn't accomodate the amount of space they were taking up. for weeks i bugged my dad to put shelves up in my room, and i promised him that it'd look fantastic with all of the quirky and gorgeous cameras i owned - he finally gave in!

i think the white shelves look fantastic in my room :) it contrasts nicely with the black frame of my print seen by my computer. i'll probably end up replacing the photograph as my room looks a bit messy on here...

anyways! i'll upload a few more close up photographs of the shelf and a more detailed post on which cameras i own soon as my university work dies down :) i have a deadline on friday for literally everything i have done in the first year - talk about pressure aaaaaah.

hope you all had a fantastic weekend!
:)

a long awaited package finally arrived...

my new pair of vulcanized burgundy vans!!!

i have waited a year and a few months for these - i'm a size 5 and they ALWAYS sell out my size first :( each time they came back in stock i was either a bit short of cash or they sold out. the 3rd time they came out recently all of the websites had already sold out except amazon - thankfully I now own my pair and I don't wait to take them off!

recent purchases

So my boyfriend's sister Emma is incredibly talented with sewing and generally just great with creative ideas. she makes sock monkeys, she made me one last year and my family loved it that much they asked her to make another 3 which you can see below! :) the colours are gorgeous, and i love the buttons which match each monkey's theme.

the cute little bag each one arrived in!

they always look so happy and vibrant, if i could have a room full of them then i totally would!

my favourite one out of the 3 ;)

leigh's project shoot

a while ago my friend leigh who does the graphic design degree at Kingston University, asked me to help her with her project. I was to submit a piece of photography based under the theme of 'un-education' for her Zine magazine, which she has to create with her partner and sell as many copies as she can.

so, for my photographic series i decided to explore graphic design (something which I have always really loved) as i have never been education within it, so it kind of fits the brief.........

this is my favourite!

new logo design/website

i absolutely love my new logo - designed by Chelsea Cannar. I decided that seeing as I had a lovely new logo, I should probably re-design my website to match it.

assisting sammy!

a few days ago my friend sammy asked me if i could help her/show her lighting set-ups for her project with Kirby - i love helping people so of course i said yes!

the shoot was incredibly fun - sammy wanted to create a series of photographs about movement with fabrics, and the way they caught the light was beautiful!

i haven't got any photos of sammy and kirby shooting as i left my iphone on a train home foolishly and nobody handed it in :(

but while sammy had a break - i grabbed the camera and jumped at the opportunity of shooting kirby as she is ridiculously photogenic :) here are a few of my outcomes:

the way that the light hits kirby's hair makes me incredibly envious :(

aaaannd... my favourite shot! :)

now i'm off to work - hopefully i'll get enough sleep to have another productive morning tomorrow :)

still life + portrait #2

okay, so this post is about my outcome for the portraiture side of the project for university.

for this shoot, i was very inspired by weddings i have previously photographed; waiting for the perfect moment to capture the confetti in mid-air. the way it blurs a photograph looks amazing, and i wanted my portrait to include that.

however, the complication was that the subject HAS to be a stranger... and i don't think they'd appreciate me throwing confetti in their face right away.

i'd organised this shoot several times, each time something happened that prevented it all from happening. so, half an hour before my allocated studio time i was running around my university like a madman with my friends Helena and Sam, trying to find someone who would look willing to be pelted with confetti for me. eventually, we found somebody on Helena's course (who i'd never met - so they technically are a stranger!!) and Hayley thankfully agreed to help me in my time of need!

with the help of my lovely assistants (helena & sam) i wouldn't have been able to shoot confetti - so thank you to them!

it took a while for poor hayley to get used to the confetti being aggressively thrown in her face...

helena's face here is priceless - couldn't resist adding this into this post!

after finally discovering the right shutter speeds/adjusting lighting, i decided to crack on and try shoot!

having to fluff hayley's hair every 5 minutes...

i ended up with this photograph (my favourite with confetti) which i LOVE! i haven't tried to edit out the bit of confetti on her nose yet, because i know it'll be stupidly difficult.

however... i came across this lighting test shot, and i think it's definitely my favourite from the whole entire shoot! i caught hayley off-guard and i just love how relaxed yet serious she looks...
i'm pretty sure that it will be one of my final outcome photographs.

and finally...

GROUP SHOT!!!

still life + portrait

one of the briefs set at my university (Cumbria) was to produce 2 A3 prints of a portrait and a still life concept. the still life object could not be bigger than a football and had to be taken in the proper lighting photography studio, and the portrait had to be of a stranger - also in the studio.

i loved researching the still life concept, i have always loved the colours of flower petals and how vibrant they are and how they contrast with white backgrounds so i realised they would look great for this brief.

the concept i wanted to portray for still life was the scientific side of flowers, rather than the aesthetic appearance of them. i deconstructed the intricate structures of the flowers and laid them out neatly into rows, making the composition of each image very tight and a focal point as a whole, rather than one feature of several.

this was my set-up! i was stood on a very un-sturdy stepladder while i photographed each flower - safe to say i felt like i could have fell forward and destroyed the still life studio!

with a bit of post-production, here are my end results.

overall, i absolutely love the way they have turned out. even though we only had to produce 1 A3 print, i decided to print 4 because i just couldn't choose one of them! i think they work fantastically as a set of photographs.

next post will be some photos from my portrait shoot! :)

blog revamp!

it's been a while since i last posted, and i have decided to start blogging again about my photography; including weddings, university work and everything else in-between!

currently in the process of having my logo/website redesigned, and my blog will also follow in being re-designed... so keep an eye out on my progress as it takes forever for me to do it all! :)

recently i went a bit crazy on eBay's ending soon section and ended up buying 7 film cameras, yes. 7 film cameras. annoyingly i wasn't in for any of the deliveries!

one of my lovely film cameras, i need to try and hunt down some 127 film for it to work or get some motivation to do a project where you can use 35mm film in it! far too much university work currently to even attempt that!
